GROWING A SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY STEP BY STEP
The new millennium offers us outstanding opportunities to reach other
seniors with the Gospel. Someone has said, "Together We Can Do Anything."
How true! Working and praying together, we can accomplish great things
for God in the year 2000. Hopefully, we all will become involved and
everyone will strive to develop a growing, vibrant SAM (Senior Adult Ministry) in every
church. Here are some simple, basics steps to get started.
1. START SMALL and grow. It only takes a few seniors to start praying and
planning.
2. SET A DATE for an informational gathering within your church group to
discuss plans.
3. PRAY for your SAM to grow. Everything begins with prayer, and without
it nothing can be accomplished of lasting value.
4. APPOINT a coordinator or facilitator who will lead the group in the early days.
5. CHOOSE an appropriate name which will describe your group. Prime Timers, Keen- agers,
Owls (Old Wise Leaders Serving) are just a few suggestions.
6. DECIDE how often you will meet. Once a month would be a good start.
7. INVOLVE your pastor. He will give you support when he knows what you
want to do.
8. PLAN a project to give purpose to your group. How about considering a
prayer walk around your church or a prayer ride. You could begin distributing the JESUS
film in your community. A special luncheon with an evangelistic speaker would open up many
doors of opportunity. Just get together for fellowship, fun and food. Plan a one day
outing.
9. PRAY EARNESTLY. Always take some time for group prayer and lift each
others burdens up to the Lord. You will soon be in orbit and doing what God intended
us seniors to do- lead the way to Jesus.
