A GOOD IDEA FOR GRANDPARENTS ALSO
The idea for this SENIOR TIP came from an article by Rich Shipe on Home
Schooling News. Have you ever wondered how Hannahs prayer recorded in 1
Samuel 2 ever got into this book. No doubt Hannah had been dead a long
time before 1 Samuel was recorded near the end of Samuels life. So how
did this prayer get recorded with such detail? Of course we know the Holy
Spirit inspired the writing of the book. However, it seems perfectly
plausible that this prayer was included because it was either written
down or else rehearsed in Samuels presence time after time after time as
a young child. We know that Hannah poured her life into teaching Samuel
as a young child knowing that one day he would be alone in the Temple
with Eli, the Priest. She knew that when he was lonely, he would need the
comfort of her prayer and the spiritual strength she could impart to him.
I got to thinking about us grandparents and our responsibility to our
grandchildren. It is true that normally we will not be raising them, but
we must never give up praying for them. Those grandchildren need to hear
from us frequently. They need to be assured that we are praying for them.
Oh, I know they may not indicate to you that they are listening or even
interested in your prayers. Some may be in out-right rebellion at this
moment. Thats all the more reason to pray for them. That doesnt excuse
us for one minute from pouring our lives into them through prayer,
letters, phone calls, or whatever it takes to keep in touch. It is our
touch that will open their hearts doors some day. Rich Shipe suggests
that we write a prayer for our grandchildren and send it to them or write
it in a Bible for them to read at some point in their lives. I suggest
that you write your prayer for them as soon as possible and pray it for
them every day. Then, watch God work a miracle.
