One of the secrets of aging is to live life to the limit of your health
and strength. That will be different for each person, but here are some
tips for the 55 plus gang to help each one make the most of life for the
glory of God.
1. EXERCISE REGULARLY. No one is ever too old for exercise! You will
boost your energy level by some simple exercises. Walking or swimming are
two of the best and easiest forms. As you increase these activities, they
could lead to more vigorous forms such as bike riding, tennis, even
jogging. It provides a person with a new outlook on life. Begin slowly
and build up your stamina for increased good health.
2. MAINTAIN YOUR PROPER WEIGHT. Many seniors are couch potatoes and watch
far too much TV. It adds on pounds very quickly, and besides, TV doesnt
have much to offer in the way of stimulation. Dont waste your time in
front of the tube. Theres lots of productive work to do for God.
Exercise and a good diet will help you to maintain your proper weight,
and that will add years to your life.
3. STAY INVOLVED SOCIALLY. One of the best ways is to stay on the job as
long as possible. Work opens up opportunities for you to meet people and
stay fresh and youthful in your thinking. If there are no jobs to do,
volunteer at the hospital, an elementary school as a reader, your church,
your family. There really are endless volunteer jobs to be done.
4. ACCEPT YOUR AGE. Dressing or acting like a much younger person only
undermines what you have to offer: experience, wisdom and a seasoned
perspective. Younger people around you need what only you can offer, and
when given with a right attitude, you will be surprised how many come to
you for advice and help. Start accepting your age and see what doors God
opens to you in your church and family.
5. KEEP LEARNING. Many people make excuses about learning something new
as they grow older. The fact is, the more you apply yourself to learning
new things the better it will be for your mind and health. Many seniors
are going back to college, learning to use the internet, studying music,
or a thousand other things. As long as God gives you breath, keep on
learning something new and use it for His glory.
