LIVING A LIFE OF INTEGRITY
Recently I read an article in Focus on the Family on parental integrity. It was written by Kurt and Olivia Bruner urging parents to be very careful what kind of example they set before their children. It started me thinking about us grandparents and what kind of example we set before our children and grand children. The Bruners write: "Integrity is living and telling the truth. It is based upon the same root word as integration. When we integrate truth into life, we have integrity. It cannot be hit-or-miss. It cannot be abandoned when convenient."
Sometimes grandparents become cranky, and occasionally downright cantankerous. Some are worried that their funds will not last and sometimes sickness has made us miserable to be around. Once in awhile I meet grand parents who are trying to cheat the government out of taxes or they load up on the little packets of sugar at restaurants. There are many more inconsistencies in some lives. The hard fact is that little eyes are watching the example set before them by a generation which professes to love Jesus, goes to church, still sings in the choir, and maybe serves as an elder in the church!
Teaching life-changing virtues isnt incidental. It is life itself. Grandma. Grandpa. What do your grandchildren see in you worth imitating?
